I have a plumbing emergency, what should I do?

What do you do when a plumbing emergency arises? The very first thing is to ensure it's safe, and hopefully not getting even worse. Electricity and water do not combine safely, so if you need to, turn the mains switch off at the power panel.

If there is still water leaking, turn off the service valve to the appliance or fixture if you can, or go immediately to the main valve for your property. If you are unable to locate the water valve to turn off, then you can try turning on all the cold water taps inside and outside the residence to depressurise the system and minimise the leak.
